Madrid – Tips & Suggestions

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía

Madrid, courtyard of Centro de Arte Reina Sofia

All the tourist's busses stop at the famous Prado museum, but if you feel tired of all those dark paintings and portraits of some bloody kings you might feel more comfortable at the national museum ›Centro de Arte Reina Sofía‹, an impressive and beautiful museum for modern and contemporary art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Among the artists are Picasso (›El Guernica‹ can be seen here), Klee, Miró, Sánchez, Dalí, Ernst, Kandinsky and many more.

The museum uses a former hospital and an extension built 2004 by architect Jean Nouvel. Go there on a sunny day to Madrid, courtyard of Centro de Arte Reina Sofia to enjoy the lighting effects at the roof of the courtyard. The courtyard also shows an abstract figure by Roy Lichtenstein.

Open Mon and Wed to Sat 10:00 - 21:00, Sun 10:00 - 14.30. Closed on Tuesdays. Free entrance on Saturdays from 14:30 to 21:00 and on Sundays from 10:00 to 14:30. For current exhibitions and other information see museoreinasofia.es.

Mojitos and Tapas

Madrid, Cuban bar If you need a refreshment after a long day visiting Madrid try a Mojito cocktail in the Cuban bar and restaurant ›La Negra Tomasa‹. We never left the bar without at least two Mojitos (Hemingway's favourite cocktail, by the way).

Of course, you can also try Cuban cuisine. Reservations are recommended, as there are live performances of Cuban music at weekend nights.
